well im 20 y.o and im thinking of joining the victorian police force. i just have a few questions on my mind, i would appreciate if someone can give me answers to
1. when officers are off duty, are they permitted to take their firearms home for personal protection ?
2. i see some police officers in my area with police cars in their drive way, are officers allowed to take police cars home whenever they feel like or do they need to be at a certain rank?
3. if a police officer is off duty, can they make and arrest or pull a car over and give out a ticket?
4. do police officers pay for speeding fines even if they are caught speeding in their private car?
5. i was told that officers can get free maccas, is this true ? if it is, what are some other things they can get?
6. for example, if i was working in the western suburbs and on the news i see that there is an armed offender or a child molester on the loose in another region (e.g eastern suburbs. etc), can i go and assist in the search for these offenders? or do i need special permission? or arnt i just allowed because its that regions officers duty?
7. can police make an arrest if someone is making fun of the officer or spitting at them? or they just have to ignore it?
8. can police officers use their own private hotted up cars as disguise to catch offenders such as hoons? and can they get permission to transform their private car into a police car with the blue n red lights to use on duty?
9. can a police officer choose what region they want to work in?
10. if i was to join and in a few years down the track decide to specialize in the dog squad can i buy my own german shepherd or rottweiler and put him into the dog squad when his at the right age?
11. to specialise in the TRG or SOG, would i need military training or do they have their own training that i will have to undertake?
12. and finally, what kind of impact does the police force have on an officers life, positively and negatively? do they spend much time with their family?, would they lose alot of friendships after joining the police force because their friends dont like cops? etc
